Yeah, well that didn't work out
hahaha, since my most recent post things have gone down hill. I was stuck in bed for 5 days, in what can only be described as THE WORST PAIN I'VE EVER FELT. Keep in mind, 2 of my 3 kids were born "naturally" and very, very quickly. This was worse. After 2 days of listening to me cry every time I had to stand up or move my leg in any way, my husband forced me to the doctor. Diagnosis: piched sciatic. Yeah, I knew that. They gave me 30 Vicodan and sent me on my way. 2 days later, all Vicodan was gone. I was up to 3 every 2 hours just to keep the pain managable. Back to the doc we go, this time for a more in-depth look. Back xrays and an MRI. Also, RX for Percoset and a muscle relaxer. Ahhhh. Finally a break from the pain enough for me to get a semi-decent nights sleep. The MRI revealed a herniated disc in my lumbar area, causing inflammation of the sciatic, yada yada yada. Unfortunately it caused some minor (I guess) nerve damage. I now have numbness (think massive dose of novocaine numb) in half my foot including the ball, heel and two last toes, my entire calf and the upper thigh/hip area of both legs. This has been interesting. I almost always walk with a limp now, especially when I'm tired. I absolutely cannot stand on my tip-toes on my left foot alone. Weird. It just doesn't work. And worst of all, I can barely run. It's more of a loping skip. Not doing that in a marathon, no thanks. I'm disappointed, but I shall persevere. It may take a year or two longer. At least I can walk. I just have to be aware, because too much strain can cause another flare up and believe me, I would rather just chop my leg off than feel that again.

Holy Cow
I has been 15 months since my last post. Wow. I actually totally forgot about this blog. I did not stick with my running goals, and did not participate in the 2009 marathon. Due mostly in part to procrastination, with a little illness and injury thrown in. My back was a constant source of pain for about 6 months. Since my last post, I've gained 20 pounds. My back is better but I have chronic pain in my left leg due to a pinched sciatic nerve, which also causes random cramping in my calf. In spite of all of the above, I've decided to try again. I'm trying to eat healthier, I'm doing the Biggest Loser on Wii workout, and I'm running on the treadmill as often as I can, at least twice a week. I am registered (paid for and everything) for the 2010 Rock and Roll Marathon, June 27th. I have friends also participating, so hopefully that will keep me motivated! Here's to a new year and a new me!

I think it is Saturday
well, no new running to report, it's been another waste of a week. It is so hard to find time in my busy life as mom of three! I'm sticking with it though, I am determined to run in the marathon in June. Today I got some great new running shoes, so hopefully now the balls of my feet won't feel like they are broken when I get done. And I still have 8 months to properly break them in. Let me just say, Thank God for my treadmill, without which I'd have to be out in the rain. Yes, I live in Seattle and it is raining. All the time. And I love it!

Starting Over
Since I missed an entire week of running, due to lack of sleep and illness, I am essentially starting over. Let's hope no more sickness comes my way any time soon, though that's pretty impossible with a kid in preschool bringing home germs.
I got back to it today. I intended to start last night, first putting the kids to bed and then jogging while I watched TV. I got the kids to bed at 930, it was amazing. But by 10 two of them were up again, and I fought to get them to bed for the next THREE HOURS! Finally at 1am it seemed everyone would stay in their beds. Unfortunately it was also time for me to be in mine. So I got up this morning, and after submitting my hours for work ('cuz I need to get paid!) I hopped on the treadmill. 2 of my kids sat there staring at me the whole time, while the third slept. I managed to shave another minute off my time, but upping my speed. I went from walking at 3 mph and running at 3.5 mph to walking at 3.5 mph and running at 4 mph. It had been a week since I ran at all, so I was wiped out after just one mile.

Stop Kicking Me in the Head!
ugh, I woke up this morning feeling like someone had kicked me repeatedly in the head all night. I sadly stayed up until 2am again, even though I knew I was getting sick and I knew I'd have to get up with kids several times. Such is my dilemma every night. It's hard to go to bed with Warhammer and anime as my soundtrack, though I am getting better at falling asleep with all that noise and the lights on. After getting up with the kiddoes this morning and making sure all diapers were changed and tummies were full, I went back to bed. My husband kindly took care of whatever else needed doing, put the baby down for a nap and took the other two out to run errands. I got some much needed sleep until almost 2pm! I intended to at least walk a mile on the treadmill today, but my energy is seriously depleted. Maybe I can force myself to do it before bed tonight, but really, why push is when I am sick? I have to be in decent health tomorrow, I'm taking Minnie on a Princess themed ice cream cruise around the sound! She'll be dressed as Snow White. I hope my camera's battery lasts, its been iffy lately. Stupid thing won't hold a charge. Anyway, we are too broke to go anywhere this week, so I will be home a lot and will hopefully have time to get back to a regular running schedule. Fingers crossed!

The Gifts Kids Give
no running for me today, maybe tomorrow. I have had a serious lack of sleep in the past 3 days and am barely awake enough to get thru the day. On top of that, my lovely children all had a cold simultaneously this week, and I woke up with it this morning. Thanks kids! Now my head is full of cotton and I can't taste anything. Oh boy!

Tuesday 9/24
I was up, and the kids were not, so I did my routine at 12am. I tried intervals this time, so 3 minutes jogging at 3.5 mph, then 3 minutes walking at 3 mph. It went pretty well. By my last jog I was feeling it in my thighs. I got done and prepared to go to bed...
...that did not happen. Instead I stayed up until 2am with my husband, watching a great Taiwanese drama (soap?) called Meteor Garden. We have only one episode left, so it was hard to even force myself to bed at 2. At 3am I woke up to my youngest, 5 month old Melody, singing in the crib. She wanted her bottle. She had her bottle, then another, then 1/2 of another! can you say growth spurt? I finally got her back to bed around 445am. At 530 I woke up to my middle child, 1 1/2 year old Minuet, sobbing. She has a cold and generally doesn't sleep well anyway. So I put her in my bed to try and get a bit more sleep. At 6am I woke up to Melody again, hungry for yet another bottle! She absolutely would not go back to bed, so I took her to ours at 645. I fell asleep at about 705, and the alarm went off at 715. So, if we do the math, I got approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes of sleep. Thank God for coffee!
